(This welcome message is repeated in every issue in consideration of first- time readers of this newsletter.)

The Freedom Letter and 40 Days to Freedom are publications of Freedom Ministries, Inc., a Florida not-for-profit corporation (#N94000005074) and a non-denominational Christian minis- try. The book, 40 Days to Freedom, is a procedure for healing addictions and obsessions given by God to Tom Lomas, the author, in answer to a desperate prayer when on the brink of a second suicide attempt.

Tom’s addiction of almost forty years was classified by psychiatry as “masterful instinct” (incurable). During the forty-day walk in the desert of his soul, he was spiritually reborn and set free. God then disclosed the reason he was given a procedure, instead of an instant healing, was that Tom would write 40 Days to Freedom so souls in bondage all over the world would experience this same, glorious, God-given freedom and rebirth.

This issue of the Freedom Letter shares only a recent few of the many healing testimonies received by Freedom Ministries, Inc. since early ‘95 when 40 Days to Freedom was first distributed. MIRACLES SHARED

From Tomoka Correctional Institution, FL ......... In 1995, during a monthly visit, an inmate told Tom that he had been “freed from an alternative sexual preference. When I started reading your book, a strange feeling came over me and I realized I was in God’s presence. I immediately knew I was being offered His healing and answered, ‘Lord, if this is what you want for me, then so be it.’ By the time I finished the forty day walk and your book, this desire was gone.”

On May 4, 1999, during the same monthly visit, Herb was called to the podium as he had volunteered to give his testimony. Prior to this date, I was the only person he shared this intimacy with as such revealing can be especially dangerous in prison. In addition to the above which was reported (without his name) in the Fourth Quarter ‘95 Freedom Letter and in the second printing of 40 Days to Freedom, he testified before the prisoners and volunteers gathered that God had given him a “burden” that he must publicly share his awesome story of freedom and rebirth.

From a Freedom Minister in Boston ........... I wanted to let you know that the individuals at Dimock Street Detox Center are so excited about the book 40 days to Freedom. They are truly being delivered. The clients are giving individual testimonies of the deliverance power of God. Do you ever plan on being in the Boston area? If so, I would like for you to speak to this group. You are truly a blessing to the Kingdom of God. I pray that God will send in the finances for you to continue the mighty work He has called you to do. A prisoner who you sent a book too mentioned how everyone at South Bay Correctional Institution is being blessed by the book. (You are probably getting many requests for it.)

From jail in Ocala, FL ...... During this my “time of pruning,” God has revealed new things to me and I am abundantly blessed and hopefully ready to bear fruit again. One of God’s blessings came to me through your book 40 Days to Freedom - Live the Miracle! Today is Day 31 and I feel compelled to get this letter written, so much so, that I awoke at 3:00 A.M. to do it! Praise God!

I was given your book by another inmate who thought I could use it more. I waited to start it until approximately 45 days before my scheduled release. You should know I am also attending a Christian 12-step class while in here and have been saturating myself in God’s word!

Your book will be a part of my daily devotions even after I finish this 40 days. I can keep referring to it day-by-day in my walk with God. I will be released to begin my new life, free of obligations to the law, on 5/31/99 at 12:01 A.M.

I wanted to write and thank you for writing your book and to let you know it is an invaluable tool which I will spread the news about! In all this, I feel God has called me and I hope to start school for counseling and attend a Bible university as soon as God’s willing and I’m ready.

Also, I would like to request any ministry information on Freedom Ministries, that you could send, as God has put it on my heart to submit part of my tithe from my IRS refund to your ministry.

From a college student Freedom Minister in Louisiana ...... tomorrow we will be on day 20 and I am very excited we are 20 more days away from our total freedom. The group is very excited because we are really doing it and enjoying it. We have seen some positive results since we started your book. There has been many many testimonies. Our last meeting that we had was a very emotional one, I think we cried most of the time. But they were not tears of sorrow but they were tears of joy. We are really excited about the changes that have and will take place in our lives.

God is inspiring me as to just where to place your book.  I'm having fun!  By the way, Harold pointed out something quite valid:  More than nicotine, I have been healed of REBELLION from God.  That's what sin is, and smoking is just a manifestation of sin and rebellion.  And that's why it's been so easy because I want to please God!  WOW!

From jail in Key West ........ I started this book called 40 Days to Freedom. I was on my 15th day; and you will never guess what the Lord did. He brought Tom Lomas right here to me. Man, this is one great Lord we have! By the time you get this letter, I will be on Day 20. Praise the Lord! Every day I say “NO!” to satan. I’m getting better every day. Oh, it feels good to fight satan; and, I can truly say I’m winning this round.

From Cynthiana, KY ....... It (40 Days to Freedom) lifted my spiritual life up and got me to see more clearly now. It got me to see the joy our God gave us in this world and by living his word is right and that we do need him for our test. It made me realize we need him to be happy and to fight satan of our sins. So I would like to thank you for my new beginning of a new life.

From Quitman, GA ....... I am now in jail awaiting trial for killing my wife. Over the years there had been many discretions, which I thought I had forgiven her for; but I guess I really hadn’t. I just kept burying my anger and my distrust. I wish I could take it all back but I can’t. Anyway a prison minister, that comes by on the weekends, has been helping me in my search for God. Your book has been a God-send.

From prison in Daytona Beach ...... All the world should read 40 Days to Freedom because this God-given book delivered from all kinds of demonic strongholds from overeating, alcohol, lust, pride, drugs, and a freedom to walk a new life in Jesus Christ. Amen! Thank you, Jesus and Bro. Lomas.

From jail in Miami ...... While attending church one morning, I was tremendously blessed with a copy of your book, 40 Days to Freedom. And from the very first day I opened your book it’s been a blessing to me. It was as if God was talking to me directly from your book. You see I was being tormented with a lustful addiction for years and it seemed as though there was no hope for me getting set free. But through your wonderful book I am now set free and restored in spirit. And now I’m open to give love and not always look for people to give to me.

From jail in Kissimmee, FL ....... It seems as though 40 Days to Freedom has brought a blessing back into my life. Yesterday, one day after I received 40 Days to Freedom and was almost finished, I received two lovely God-inspired letters from my wife. Today I want to thank the Lord for setting me free in the Spirit. Tonight, for the first time, I went to services and confessed my sins and turned my life over to God. And today I’m eager and proud to praise God in the name of Jesus Christ and reap my happiness. I’m going to read 40 Days to Freedom to my friend, who can’t read well, and explain it to him in Jesus’ name.

From EWCC for Women, OK ...... I have been incarcerated since July ‘97 and have chosen to surrender my life to Jesus Christ, our Lord. This is the best decision I have ever made in my life. I was in the library one day and came across your book, 40 Days to Freedom and it caught my eye. After reading it, I began my forty days and am now on Day 23. I have truly enjoyed the inspiration from your words of encouragement.

Commentary: We believe every person, regardless of age, education, or religious background, who reads 40 Days to Freedom with an open heart and mind, is wonderfully blessed by an increased presence of God in his or her life. This Presence is capable of creating peace and joy no matter how challenging our circumstances.

GOD’S DIRECTION

As I sit and write this to you, I recall my heavy heart as, two weeks ago, entering Tomoka Correctional Institution for a three-day retreat weekend, for the first time in four years I was not bringing copies of 40 Days to Freedom for each of the forty-two candidates. After distributing 16,700 copies to 136 prisons and jails and 194 ministries and churches (mostly prison and recovery ministries), we are out of books. Now we are still distributing the message, which God told me will “blanket the earth,” via the Internet (http://www.40days2freedom.org) in two formats, one interactive primarily for reading online and the other better suited for downloading. I am aware some Freedom Ministers are downloading and distributing copies; however, our distribution to prisoners (behind walls of concrete or addiction or both), who don’t have access to the Internet, has been severely curtailed .

So please forgive me for starting this ministry update with what could be deemed bad news. Now for the GOOD NEWS! God has revealed His method for funding the 50,000 copy third printing of 40 Days to Freedom. About a year ago, He inspired me to start what could be loosely defined as journaling consisting of mostly inspirations from material He had led me to study and from communications with others through Freedom Ministries, Inc. He also had me create a file of references to scriptures that had impacted me in special ways. Recently, I realized these files were substantially larger than the computer text file of 40 Days to Freedom. When this all began, I asked if this was to be another book. Not only was there no answer; but God led me to simply be obedient, patient, and trusting in His purpose and to forget that I had ever asked such a question.

Now are you ready for the GOOD NEWS? So often God has revealed His plan to me by feeding me the pieces of a puzzle, one at a time, perhaps spanning years. Finally there is the key piece, perhaps very small; but it brings the entire picture of His intent together; and with this revelation I am both overwhelmed with joy and humbled that I have received such a wonderful answer (all His answers are wonderful) to prayer from the Creator and Master of the universe and me. The final piece to the puzzle of funding the third printing of 40 Days to Freedom was given to me this morning, May 18, 1999, in the form of a book title. Suddenly all of the pieces, going back to the “blanket the earth” message, came flying together in a great rush. The sales from this second book will fund the third printing of the first book which “has come to set the captives free.”

This second book of this author will be a physically larger work, at least twice the size of the first, probably hard-bound; and, unlike the first, will not be free to all of God’s children. Its sales must provide at least $30,000 to Freedom Ministries, Inc. as this is the estimated need for the printing expense only for 50,000 copies of 40 Days to Freedom which will remain God’s free gift to all His children. Total donations to our ministry in ‘98 were $13,921.32. Total distribution in ‘98 was 10,000 hard copies plus Internet. Based on the growth in numbers of Freedom Ministers, we anticipate one year to distribute 50,000 copies once they are printed. So please rejoice with me that God has once again proven himself faithful.

During the interim, until the new book is published, if you share my heavy heart for those now captive without access to the Internet, you may help in bringing God’s message of freedom, 40 Days to Freedom, to them by returning the support form in this letter with as much as you possibly can give for the printing of a 5,000 copy extension of the second printing. Many of you have ordered in quantity or had us send copies to friends and loved ones in the past as you have seen God work His miracles through this little (160 pages) book. Jesus himself told us he came to set the captives (habitual sinners) free (Luke 4:18). If you believe that the gift of freedom and rebirth to eternal life is important, especially if you or those you touch have been blessed by God’s liberating message of 40 Days to Freedom, then you are encouraged to dig deep and fast as our backorder list from ministries and prisons is growing rapidly.

Matthew 25 tells us that we will not be judged on how many times we attended church service or received communion or even how many sins we committed; but we will be judged on whether we loved the unlovable (prisoners, homeless, aged, infirm, etc.) willingly, happily, without hesitating, when given the opportunity. Here is our opportunity to open the same door to eternal bliss we hope to enter ourselves for others whom society and many churches judge unworthy. If Jesus was to ask, right now, for a cup of water, what would we do? Immediately give it with a smile on our face and in our heart? Or would we slap his face as evidenced in his picture in our book? Or would we do nothing, condemning him and ourselves at the same time? Again, here is our opportunity.

I believe 5,000 copies will cover the demand until the new book is published. I will spend every moment possible in its composition as I believe God wants it available to the public before Y2K. I know it also will be a source of freedom to many. I will seek a volunteer worker to assist in filling orders of 40 Days to Freedom (after the second printing extension is received) while I’m working on the new book. You should know that Freedom Ministries, Inc. pays no salaries; nor do we intend to until the growth of our distribution demands hired help. In any event the founder and president is not and will not be salaried.

Finally, allow me to share a confirmation to this final puzzle piece received this morning. The new title was given to me while in study. After celebration and praise and thanksgiving, I reached for a pad to write down the title not trusting memory alone to carry it. On the pad just above where I wrote the title, was something I had written last night as I watched a tape of the CBS Joan of Arc. It was a phrase said by Joan and repeated by her companion and protector, “I am taking it as it comes.”

Nine years ago, after healing me of what had been the root of my expulsion from a career as an Air Force officer, of the death of a twenty-three year marriage, of nearly my physical death at age fifty through a second suicide attempt, God ordained me as His messenger to the lost souls of addiction and habitual sin throughout the world.

I couldn’t write a book; but I obeyed. I couldn’t speak about my sexual lust addiction in prisons; but I obeyed. I couldn’t publish the book; but I obeyed. I couldn’t stop working to earn a living; but I obeyed. I couldn’t “blanket the earth” with the book; but, 49 states and 24 countries later, I am obeying. Now I have been directed to write another book offering God’s freedom to His children through book stores; and, I know, as long as “I take it as it comes” and am obedient to His direction, His work and His will will be done. <fm><
